ABOUT TEAM PENNING

Team Penning is a competition where three riders pull three specific cows from a herd of thirty, push them down the arena, and put them in a pen. The goal is to be the fastest team to successfully pen the cattle. If the allotted time expires, or too many cattle cross the foul line, the result is a "no time". Team penning started in the 1950's in California and riders of all ages and levels of experience compete.

ABOUT RANCH SORTING

Ranch Sorting is a competition where a team of two riders need to separate numbered cattle, in order, into a pen while keeping the wrong numbered cattle back.  There are multiple variations of ranch sorting with one to three riders on a team, but all variations require sorting the cattle in order form one pen to another. This sport evolved from the ranch work of sorting cattle into pens for transport or branding.
